InvisiTape Application. Step-By-Step For Stylists.

By Will Wyatt · May 2026

InvisiTape isn't traditional tape-in. The tape is injected into the weft instead of pre-laminated to the panel. That changes how it sits on the scalp, how you sandwich the natural hair, and how long the bond lasts. If you've installed traditional tape-ins, this is faster — but the prep is non-negotiable.

Here's the install, end to end.

What InvisiTape Solves.

Traditional tape-in extensions have a tape strip glued to the back of a hair panel. The tape adds visible thickness at the install point. The panel is rigid because the laminate stiffens it. The bond starts breaking down at week six because heat and oil oxidize the adhesive.

InvisiTape is different. The adhesive is injected into the weft itself, so the tape strip is invisible — no thickness, no shine line, no bulge under fine hair. The bond holds 8–10 weeks instead of 4–6. The weft moves naturally because there's no laminate stiffening the panel.

For clients who want tape-in (no sewing, faster install, pulls out clean for vacation) but won't tolerate the look of traditional tape: this is the answer.

Pre-Install Prep.

Get this wrong and the install fails at week two:

  • Clarify thoroughly. Sulfate-free clarifier shampoo, two passes. No conditioner anywhere. Anything left on the cuticle = adhesion failure.
  • Air-dry or cool blast only. Hot dryer leaves residue oil on the cuticle.
  • Do not use heat protectant. Silicones in heat protectant ruin the bond.
  • Section the install map. Horizontal rows starting one finger below the occipital. Spacing 1" vertical between rows.
  • Measure the section width. InvisiTape pieces are sized to match standard sections (~1.5" wide). Don't compress or stretch.

The Install. Step By Step.

  1. Take a horizontal section. Half-inch deep, 1.5" wide. Comb it cleanly.
  2. Place the first InvisiTape piece against the underside of the section. The injected tape side faces the natural hair.
  3. Sandwich. Take a matching half-inch deep section of natural hair from above and lay it flat against the top of the InvisiTape piece. The natural hair is now sandwiched between two InvisiTape pieces — or between the InvisiTape and an unattached natural section, depending on your sandwich style.
  4. Press for 30 seconds. Use the heat-free pressure tool or your fingers. Even pressure across the full width.
  5. Move to the next section. 1" up. Repeat.

Most full installs run 60–90 minutes. Significantly faster than sewn-in. Your client walks out and washes hair the same day (after 24 hours of no water on the bond).

Pack Math For InvisiTape.

  • Volume only: 1 pack
  • Volume + length: 2 packs
  • Extra volume: 2.5–3.5 packs

Each pack covers ~32" of width across the install map. For a typical 1.5"-section install with 1" vertical spacing, expect 12–18 sections per pack depending on head size.

Use the Package Calculator to confirm count for your specific client before ordering.

Aftercare Walkthrough For Your Client.

The bond holds 8–10 weeks if she follows this. It fails at week three if she doesn't.

  • Wait 48 hours before first wash. The adhesive needs to fully set.
  • Sulfate-free, alcohol-free shampoo only. Same rule as Genius Weft. Sulfates strip the cuticle alignment; alcohol breaks down the adhesive.
  • No conditioner directly on the bond. She can use conditioner on the lengths, but never within 1" of the bond line.
  • No oil-based products near the scalp. Oil = adhesion failure.
  • Sleep on a silk pillowcase or with hair loosely braided. Friction at the bond is the most common cause of premature lift.

Read her the Aftercare Guide at the install appointment. Send her home with a printed checklist.

Removal And Reuse.

InvisiTape is removed with a tape-removal solvent (ammonia-free, designed for adhesive injection wefts). Do not pull, tug, or use heat. Saturate the bond, wait 60 seconds, slide the natural hair out.

The InvisiTape pieces are reusable. Re-tape them with fresh adhesive injection (sold separately as a refill product) and you can reinstall the same wefts up to 3 times before retiring the panel. That's 6–9 months of use per pack at the maintenance rhythm of 8–10 weeks.

When Not To Recommend InvisiTape.

  • Active scalp conditions. Eczema, psoriasis, dandruff — wait until the scalp clears.
  • Heavy product users who won't switch. If she's not willing to give up her current shampoo, oil, or heat protectant, the bond will fail. Recommend Veiled or Classic bead instead.
  • Extremely fine hair where the natural section won't sandwich the tape securely. Switch to Classic bead with EverWeft Single.
