Hair Extension Aftercare Guide for Stylists | Maintenance Protocol
Hair extension aftercare is what determines whether your client's install lasts 8 weeks or 16. The same EverWeft, hand-tied weft, genius weft, or InvisiTape extensions can wear beautifully or fail catastrophically based on the maintenance protocol you set with the client at the consultation.
Daily Aftercare Rules
- Brush 2-3 times daily with a loop brush, holding the row at the bond to prevent tension
- Dry the bonds completely after every wash — wet beads or wet tape backing slip and fail
- Sleep in a loose braid or low ponytail on a silk pillowcase
- No oil or conditioner on the bond/tape area — it dissolves the tape adhesive and slides beads
Wash Protocol for Wefts and Tape
Wash 2-3 times per week max. Sulfate-free shampoo only. Cool water rinse. Pat dry the bonds. Air dry 80% before any heat. Hair extension aftercare for tape-in and hair extension aftercare for hand-tied follows the same rules — the bond/tape needs the same protection.
Heat Styling
Up to 350F for cuticle-aligned super double drawn Remy. Always use a heat protectant. Never apply heat near the bond or tape line.
Move-Up Schedule
- EverWeft / hand-tied / genius weft — 6-8 weeks
- InvisiTape / tape-in — 4-6 weeks
- Beaded weft (Veiled or Classic) — 6-8 weeks
Aftercare Card for Clients
Print this article as a take-home aftercare card. Or email it post-install. Client compliance with aftercare rules is the single biggest predictor of how long the extensions last.
